Federal Government should factor in policy that will allow regular review of the current contributory pension scheme

Chairman, Contributory Pension Union of Nigeria, CPUN, Mr Joseph Idowu made the call during a courtesy visit to radio Nigeria Ibadan.

Mr Idowu said the contributory pension scheme as it is was not in reality with the current economic situation of the country.

He said the scheme was a way of allowing the nation’s civil servants to retire into penury

Also speaking, the secretary of the union, Mr Adewumi Ogunjirin pointed out that though the contributory pension scheme was a good retirement plan,  it was not taking care of the upward review of pensions for the current economic situation.

Mr Ogunjirin, therefore, solicited the assistance of radio Nigeria in drawing the attention of relevant authorities to the need to review the pensions of retirees.

Responding, Zonal Director, Radio Nigeria Ibadan, Mrs Bolatito Joseph expressed the readiness of the station to partner with the CPUN in making life easy for the nation’s retirees.

She also assured the association that the station was available to lend voice to pensioners’ concerns.

Mrs Joseph added that the plight of retirees should be of grave concern, stressing that all efforts should be made to make life comfortable for retired civil servants after years of meritorious service to the nation.
