A section of the Ogun state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has conducted the court-ordered rerun primaries across the state.

The governorship rerun election was held at the DLK Event Centre Abeokuta while the National Assembly and State House of Assembly primaries were held in the various constituencies.

Otunba Jimi Lawal was announced as the gubernatorial candidate after the election with 456 votes.

The Ogun State PDP Financial Secretary, Mr. Bola Odumosu, who led other members of the State Executive Committee to conduct the court-ordered rerun, declared that 463 delegates were accredited to vote in the rerun with seven voided votes.

He said other contestants Chief Ladi Adebutu, Otunba Segun Sowunmi and Mr. Abodunrin Abimbola had no vote.

The Federal High Court, Abeokuta, had in two judgments delivered on the 27th of September, 2022, in Suit No. FHC/AB/CS/87/22 and Suit No. FHC/AB/CS/83/22, ordered the State Executive Committee of the PDP in Ogun state to conduct fresh primaries within 14-days.

The defendants however filed an application for a stay of execution at the trial court in which one was dismissed and the second was withdrawn by the applicants.

In the meantime, another section of the party PDP in the state has announced the suspension of Otunba Jimi Lawal for allegedly participating in what it called an illegal governorship primary election.

The faction also suspended the party officials including Mr. Bola Odunmosun, Fasiu Ajadi, Kola Akinyemi and Tope Asiru.

The Secretary of the party, Mr. Sunday Solarin while announcing the suspension, said  Mr. Lawal and others were suspended for violating the constitution of the party by conducting and participating in an “illegal” governorship primary election which according to him was not authorized by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.

The Ogun PDP secretary stated that the principal actors in the illegal primary would be exposed by the party.
