An incident of fire explosion occurred this morning at Con Oil frontage on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

The Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Ogun State Command, Mrs Florence Okpe who confirmed this in a statement in Abeokuta said the incident involved a petrol-laden tanker and a bus.

Mrs Okpe said rescue agencies involving Trace, FRSC, Ogun State Fire Service, Police and NSCDC were presently at the scene managing the situation to prevent escalation of the unfortunate incident.

She advised motorists to make use of alternative routes to avoid unnecessary delays.

Meanwhile, Ten persons have been reportedly burnt beyond recognition in multiple crashes that occurred on the Lagos Ibadan expressway.

Mrs Okpe explained that the fatal crash which occurred at about thirteen minutes past two in the morning said the accident involved a Mack Truck marked AKL198ZT, a Mazda bus with registration number FFE361XB, a tanker with no number plate and two other vehicles with no number plates.

She pointed out that the Iveco Truck lost control due to its excessive speed and smash the Tanker body which resulted to fire outbreak.

The FRSC Public Education Officer said the burnt bodies were taken to Olabisi Onabanjo Teaching hospital Sagamu while some of the burnt vehicles were towed off the road leaving the tankers for the fuel content to be Transloaded.

Mr Okpe noted that Sector Commander FRSC Ogun Sector Command commiserated with the victims’ families after visiting the scene of the incident. 

He also advised motorists to drive cautiously, obey traffic rules and regulations as well as consider each other while moving.
