In preparation towards the 2023 general elections, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Oyo State, Dr Rahman Tella has solicited the support of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC for a secure and safe atmosphere. 

Dr Tella stated this during a courtesy visit to the State Commandant of NSCDC at the command’s headquarters, Agodi Ibadan, Mr Michael Adaralewa at ensuring that people’s lives and properties were safe before, during and after the elections. 

Dr Tella sought the continued support of the NSCDC in the protection of INEC offices, election equipment, personnel and other materials meant for the coming general elections.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner expressed the readiness of the commission to conduct credible elections in 2023 and used the medium to sensitize the command on how the equipment meant for use during the election works.

He stated further that sensitization programmes for the electorates were already on nationwide for them to have a hitch-free exercise. 

Responding, the State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, in Oyo State, Mr Micheal Adaralewa commended the INEC REC for his visit and promised a strong working relationship with the commission to collectively rebirth the story of elections in Nigeria. 

He noted that the corps was ready to support INEC as it was part of national assets which was their mandate to protect. 

The NSCDC boss further assured the REC of the corps’s commitment to providing 24-hours security coverage at the commission’s office both at the state headquarters and local government areas respectively.
