Family members of national heroes that paid the supreme price for the nation have appealed to the relevant authorities to pay more attention to their welfare and basic needs. 

Ogun State Coordinator of the Widows of the Fallen Heroes, Mrs patience Okon made the call on the occasion of this year’s Armed Forces and Remembrance Day celebrated by the State Government in Abeokuta. 

Mrs Okon who lamented the neglect of many families of the fallen heroes said it was imperative to provide the widows with profitable skills and facilities that would make life better for their families. 

She maintained that such gestures would empower the families and make people to appreciate the fallen heroes while motivating the beneficiaries to also contribute to the process of nation-building. 

In a remark, Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun urged Nigerians to add value to the families of those who made sacrifices for ensuring peace and unity of the country.

The Governor also used the occasion to encourage parents and guardians to ensure that their children and wards were properly guided against being used as political thugs during the forthcoming general elections.

Highlights of the celebration included the laying of the wreaths, gun salute, and release of pigeons to symbolize peace.
