The Chairman of Oyo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Comrade Ademola Babalola alongside his wife, Mrs Monsurat Ajoke Babalola were on Saturday conferred with the chieftaincy titles of Agbaakin Baale and Yeye Agbaakin Iyalode by the Baale of Idi-Oro, Elewa Ologuneru Ibadan for their numerous contributions to the development of their people and communities around them.

Our Correspondent reports that the glamorous event was held at the Monarch’s palace before a colourful reception held at City Palace Events Center, Gbopa, bus stop, Eleyele – Eruwa Road.

The event was graced by the Oyo Accord gubernatorial candidate, Oloye Adebayo Adelabu; Oyo South APC senatorial candidate, Akogun Sharafadeen Alli; Are Onibon Balogun of Ibadanland, who doubles as the Chairman, Solutions FM, Oloye Adegboyega Adegoke; former NUJ President, Comrade Lanre Ogundipe; a serving Vice President, Comrade Ronke Samo; NUJ State Chairmen and Secretaries across the Southwest States and other reputable media practitioners among other dignitaries from various walks of life.

The Babalolas, whose joy knew no bounds, expressed appreciation to the Baale and pledged to continue to live above boards in whatever they do in life, especially dealings with fellow humans.

The new Agbaakin Baale of Ologuneru stated that the chieftaincy recognitions would spur him and his wife to continue to serve humanity and contribute significantly towards making the world around them a better place for people to live.

Mr Babalola prayed to God to grant him and his wife the enormous wherewithal, outstanding goodwill and long life to serve humanity to the best of their abilities.

He said, “to whom much was given, much was expected”, and promised to justify the confidence the monarch reposed in them.

According to him, “You know it is often said that a prophet is without honour even in his place of birth, but it does appear that we have changed that age-long maxim. My people rolled out the drum and said this is our son in whom we are very well pleased, and they did what they did, and I am so grateful to them, especially the Baale, politicians across political divides, family and friends; well-wishers and journalists across the federation“.

In her remarks, the National Vice President, NUJ Southwest, Comrade Ronke Samo, described the chieftaincy title bestowed on the Oyo NUJ chairman, Demola Babalola, as well deserved and indeed a glorious moment for the NUJ family across the states.

Members of the Landlords Association in his area, on their part, described him as a grassroots man that was so dutiful and highly respected in the community for his numerous contributions to the community.

While showering encomiums on him, both national and state leaders of NUJ charged him not to relent in his good works.
