Authorities of the Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-Ife have condemned the incident that led to the death of a 500-level student of the institution.

In a statement by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, PRO, Abiodun Olanrewaju, the management said preliminary investigation revealed that the student died of a mob action over alleged phone theft.

The statement said the Vice-Chairman of OAU, Professor Adebayo Bamire had set up a committee to unravel the circumstances that led to the incident.

It noted that the mob action was a violation of the law of the country and the university regulations, and had been reported to the police.

The authorities of OAU, therefore, commiserated with the parents of the deceased, staff and students and prayed to God to grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
