Voluntary service to humanity has been described as a veritable means to strengthen peace and harmony in society.

This was the submission of the Chairman of Red Cross Society, Oyo State Branch, Mr Babalola Famade in an interaction with journalists to kick start activities marking the one hundred and sixty years birthday of the founder of the Red Cross Society Worldwide.

Mr. Famade noted that Red Cross Society was the largest humanitarian network made up of millions of volunteers and professionals working in close proximity with those in need ranging from natural disasters to road accidents.

Earlier, in her welcome address, the chairman of the planning committee Mrs. Torimiro Adebisi said, a week-long program had been prepared to celebrate the founder of the Red Cross, Henry Dunant who was born on 8 May 1828, in Geneva, Switzerland and died on 30 October 1910.

Mrs. Adebisi added that orientation programs would be held for volunteers as well as reactivation of Ambulance Patrol Services across major roads and expressways to scale up the services of the Red Cross in Oyo State.
