The Nigerian Army says it remains alive to its constitutional mandates, regarding curbing the activities of insurgence, terrorists, and banditry that have been affecting the development of the Nation. 

The chief of Army staff, Major General Taoreed Lagbaja stated this during a lecture and a book presentation as part of the one-week-long celebration of the 2023 Nigerian Army Day held at the conference center University of Ibadan.

Major General Lagbaja said the Nigerian Army Day celebration is an annual event which this year’s own fell on the 160th anniversary of the establishment of the Nigerian Army. 

He noted that the Army has reiterated its efforts to continue to safeguard Nigerian territorial integrity to ensure and maintain a peaceful atmosphere. 

Major General Lagbaja, therefore, pledged that the Nigerian Army shall remain loyal and do all within its power to defeat her adversary across the length and breadth of the country.

“I remain faithful and loyal to President Bola Tinubu for entrusting his stewardship of the Nigerian Army to me at this crucial time “

On his part, the special guest of honor, the chief of defense staff,  Major General Christopher Musa said the welfare of troops must be Paramount in other for the Nigerian Army to achieve its mission of making a better Nigeria. 

Major General Musa therefore called on soldiers, especially those on the war front to always follows the rules and regulations of the military to collectively wage war against insecurity. 

In his lecture entitled “Optimizing Nigerian Administration for Successful counter-insurgency operations strategic options” the guest lecturer Major General Adeniyi Oyebade Rtd. opined that the Nigerian Army can not achieve successful operations without an effective administration. 

Major General Oyebade said every successful military operation falls on the motivation of the men and women in arms through robust welfare packages for the functionality of troops from efficient leaders in the military.

“Very critically, it all depends on the leadership, and it’s not a property of a person, rather leadership could be viewed as  a relationship between the characteristics of the leader, the attitudes and needs of followers, the organization and its characteristics,  and the environment”

The lecturer stated further that for optimal performance,  the Nigerian Army leaders must ensure that troops are provided with the necessary administration logistics requirements. 

He said, currently, the dynamic engagement of the Nigerian Army in different internal security and counter-insurgency operations has serious administrative and logistics challenges, hence the need for effective and efficient leadership roles to end the problems. 

The highlight of the events includes a book luncheon titled “Nigerian Army Participation and Lessons in Ecomog Operations and lessons learned from 1990 to 2003”, awards presentations to some distinguished serving and retired officers, and a media parley with some media executives drawn from major media organizations including Director news, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria,  FRCN, Abuja,  Mrs. Husseina Bangkgshika.

Dignitaries at the event include the chief of defense staff, Major General Christopher Musa, senior officers from the military, heads of other security agencies, ex-service men as well as traditional rulers.
