A bill for to provide for the creation of new Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Ondo State 2023 has been passed by the State house of assembly.

The passage followed the submission of a report by the House Committee of the whole by the Deputy Speaker, Prince Abayomi Akinruntan and after scaling through the third reading at a plenary presided over by the Speaker, Mr Olamide Oladiji.

The committee had earlier held a public hearing last week Thursday where Stakeholders from the eighteen Local Governments Area of the State presented and defended their memoranda.

Presenting the report, the Prince Akinruntan explained that the Committee of the whole observed that many representatives called for continued existence of peace inspite of the creation of new LCDAs.

He said the Committee observed that operational facilities for the creation of the new LCDAs had been made available by various communities and also the need for State Surveyor General and his team to map out the boundaries of all the communities in order to avoid communal clashes in future.

The Majority Leader of the House, Mr Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi while moving a motion for the bills to move to third reading appreciated the entire Committee who had been working for several days to ensure the needful was done.

The Speaker in his speech recalled that Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu transmitted the bill for the creation of 33 LCDAs in addition to the existing 18 Local Governments in line with the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as part of efforts to bring government closer to the people and by extension generate development to the grassroots.

Mr Oladiji urged communities across the State to eschew all act that can generate undue rancor and acrimony that may be inimical to the existing peace and harmonious relationship among the people.

According to him, due to the lofty objective of the bill, the house swung into action, committing the bill to the Committee of the whole and thereafter organized public hearing in order to elicit meaningful and maximum contributions from members who are the representatives of the people.

He also appealed to the people of Ondo State to keep their hope alive in the present administration.

To this end, communities across the State are enjoined to eschew all act that can generate undue rancor and acrimony that may be inimical to the existing peace and harmonious relationship among the people”.

Thereafter, the lawmakers unanimously agreed for the bill to be passed through a voice votes.
