Local government chairmen in Ogun State have denied the allegation that the state government had been diverting their funds.

The local government chairmen including Chairman, Ijebu East Local Government Mr Wale Adedayo, who made the allegation stated this when they paid a visit to the State Governor, Prince  Dapo Abiodun at Okemosan Abeokuta.

The Chairman, Ijebu-Ode Local Government, who is also the State Chairman, Association of Local Government of Nigeria, ALGON, Mr Emilola Gazal, said the purpose of the visit was to acknowledge the mistakes that were made and to beg for forgiveness.

Mr Gazal pointed out that the Governor had at no time interfered in the distribution and sharing of local government funds from the federation account.

Responding, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun expressed dismay over the allegation, noting that rather than starving the local governments, his administration had made several interventions on their behalf for optimum performance.

The Governor, who said his administration had worked tirelessly to ensure the emergence of the council bosses, said his government could not engage in any act that could retard development at the grassroots.
