Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the Alaperu of Iperu-Remo, Oba Adeleke Adelekan Idowu-Basibo, describing it as a profound personal loss.
Abiodun, a prince of the Iperu-Remo kingdom, stated that while he is still coming to terms with the monarch’s demise, he acknowledges the sovereignty of Almighty God, whose decisions on human life remain unquestionable.
The governor described the late Oba as not only a revered royal father but also a trusted friend and confidant. He noted that the monarch’s reign was marked by peace and prosperity, benefiting not just the Iperu-Remo kingdom but also Ogun State and Nigeria at large.
Reflecting on Oba Idowu-Basibo’s legacy, Abiodun highlighted his academic excellence, from his early education at St. James Primary School to his A-level studies at The Polytechnic, Ibadan. The late king further distinguished himself at University College London, where he studied marine economics, as well as through diploma programs in importing and exporting at Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, and a PhD program at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology. His career in the Customs Service in Europe, which spanned two decades, was also marked by outstanding service and dedication.
“Oba Adeleke Adelekan Idowu-Basibo was a paragon of excellence,” Abiodun said. “His reign witnessed significant progress in infrastructure development, economic growth, and the expansion of peace and prosperity within the Iperu-Remo kingdom. He was a man of great grace who carried himself with dignity and was committed to the well-being of his people, irrespective of creed or political affiliation. His absence will be deeply felt.”
The governor extended his condolences to the royal family and the people of Iperu-Remo, praying for the peaceful repose of the late monarch’s soul.
