By Lilian Ibomor

Lagos State Coordinator for the Deaf Women Association of Nigeria, Miss Veronica Uwajuyi has called on the government and stakeholders to monitor the implementation of policies that are geared toward alleviating the plight of the physically challenged individuals in the society.

Miss Uwajuyi stated this at the first Deaf Women Summit of South West Zone held in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The Lagos State Coordinator noted that physically challenged people are special and need to be accommodated in government appointments and other important sectors of the economy to feel a sense of inclusion.

Miss Uwajuyi tasked the government to tackle the issue of education, healthcare, and employment marginalization which are major challenges being faced by deaf people in the society.

The spokesperson for the association, Mrs Seun Olalekan said the program was a weeklong event that sought to empower and advocate for Deaf women and girls in society.
