Mayẹ̀ Olubadan, Olóyè Lekan Alabi wants Nigeria to recognise and celebrate national heroes who served the country meritoriously while they are alive rather than organising befitting burial ceremonies after their demise.

Oloye Alabi stated this while receiving the executive members of National Forum of Heads of Federal Establishments, NAFOHEADS led by the Chairman Barrister Funmi Magaji on a courtesy visit in Ibadan

Accompanied by First Chief Corps Marshall, Western State Road Safety Corps, Major R. O. Salawu, Oloye Alabi, who noted that national honours had been commercialised, said merits as a criterion for selecting recipients was now relegated to celebrate undeserving individuals.

The Maye Olubadan, who paid glowing tribute to the late national flag designer, Pa Michael Taiwo.Akinkunmi, narrated how he facilitated honorary awards for the deceased in 1994 and his rehabilitation while he was a psychiatric patient at the University College Hospital before his eventual demise.

In her speech, Chairman, NAFOHEADS in Oyo State, Barrister Funmi Magaji, extolled the sterling qualities of the Olóyè Lekan Alabi and intimated him of the decision by the Executives to install him as the patron of the forum.

The NAFOHEADS Chairman, who is also the Oyo State Postal Manager, Nigeria Postal Service, NIPOST, noted that given the wealth of experiences of Olóyè Lekan Alabi as the Patron, NAFOHEADS would record remarkable achievements in Oyo State
