Participate actively in politics – Gov. Oyebanji charges Christians

By Kazeem Ayodeji

Churches have been enjoined to encourage their members to show interest and participate actively in politics so that righteous persons can occupy leadership positions in the country.

Ekiti State governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji made the call when the General Overseer of the Foursquare Gospel Church, Reverend Sam Aboyeji led other prominent leaders of the church on a courtesy visit to his office in Ado Ekiti.

Governor Oyebanji pointed out that God has always been his ally in his administrative journey as he made reference to the Proverb 29:2 which says, “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice, but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn”.

The governor expressed the belief that there are many individuals in Christendom who have the impetus to be great leaders, hence the need for clerics in churches to galvanize their members to participate in political activities.

Earlier, the General Overseer of the Foursquare Gospel Church, Reverend Sam Aboyeji commended Governor Oyebanji for his efforts towards the transformation of Ekiti State, saying they were at the governor’s office to intimate him about the ongoing programme of the church in the state.

Reverend Aboyeji, however, emphasized the need for leaders to address the issues of corruption and indiscipline among the citizens for the country to develop accordingly.
