The Chief Executive Officer of Niji Group, Mr Kolawole Adeniji has offered to support the Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, OYSCATECH, Igboora through training, partnership in mechanized farming and repair of four tractors.

Mr Adeniji made this known during a day sensitization programme organized for students of Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora on innovation, food sufficiency and self-employment.

According to Opeyemi Olawore, the Public Relations Officer of the institution, the founder of Niji Group called on Nigerian Youths to change their approach to agriculture and handle it as agribusiness which is the new concept to the practice of agriculture.

He also advised them to occupy their space by staying back in Nigeria, instead of leaving certainty for uncertainty.

Mr Adeniji commended the Management of OYSCATECH for introducing farm practice to students on campus while calling on the students not to see farm practice as wickedness but as an opportunity for a sustainable future.

According to Mr Adeniji, “Agriculture is a profitable venture; Nigeria is a rich land for investment in agribusiness. Students must identify their area of interest and begin, no matter how small and be serious-minded with farming.”

He expressed willingness to partner with the Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora such that students can begin to earn money from their agricultural produce while on campus.

Mr Adeniji underscored the need for staggered planting instead of depending solely on rain rain-fed system which leads to the wastage of agricultural produce.

He advised farmers to always connect with off-takers before planting.

In his welcome address, the rector, Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora, Prof. Akinola Akinlabi commended the CEO of Niji Group for his interest in impacting the younger generation positively as he reiterated the Management’s commitment to partnering with his firm for the benefit of the Students and the institution at large.

The programme also featured a sensitization lecture on drug abuse by the Area Commander, Igboora Area Command of the National Drug Law and Enforcement Agency NDLEA, Barr. Fidelis Ihejirika and the inauguration of the OYSCATECH Chapter of War Against Drug Abuse, WADA Club.

Barr. Ihejirika called on students to shun all forms of drug abuse because it will have a negative effect on their dream of becoming innovative and self-reliant.
