Gateway United football club of Ogun state on Saturday, retuned to MKO International stadium, Kuto Abeokuta after twenty months with a win over Giant Brillars in match day four of Nigeria National League, NNL.

The league body had banished the Ogun state owned football team to another venue due to the poor state of the MKO stadium.

Wasiu Falolu’s late minutes strike was enough to secure three valuable points for Gateway United to mark their return to MKO Abiola Stadium, for home matches, after more than two seasons of playing outside the city in the second tier Nigeria National League.

Falolu had capitalized on a deflection at the edge of the Giant Brillars’ box  to smash in the winning goal in n the 84th minute of the keenly contested encounter.

Following a hard-fought draw against Osun United in Osogbo, Coach Samson Omiponle had before the goal, made three changes, with Damilare Babatunde, Taofeek Babatunde, and Odusina Sunkanmi joining the lineup. 

Within two minutes, Damilare Babatunde attempted a long-range shot, narrowly missing the goal. Despite controlling the game, Gateway United found goals hard to come buy. 

In a post match conference, Coach Samson Omiponle praised his team’s mental toughness for the well-deserved three points. 

Coach Omiponle in a statement by Media officer of the club, Moses Ojewumi, expressed excitement, acknowledging their dominance and focusing on future matches. 

The coach assured fans of continued dedication and vowed not to disappoint them as the  league progresses

The team will travel to face Ikorodu City in Lagos on Saturday, December 16, 2023.
