Ogun State House of Assembly has amended the bills on the Prohibition of Forcible Occuptation of Landed Properties, Armed Robbery, Kidnapping, Cultism and other Violence and other related offences Law, 2023 as well as that of the State Legislative Funds Management Law, 2023.

The amendment process was consequent upon the presentation of the Committee reports by the Chairman, House Committee on Lands and Housing, Mr Damilola Soneye and that of House Committee on Finance and Appropriation by Mr Musefiu Lamidi.

The bills were later read and adopted clause-by-clause by the Committee of the Whole before the third reading at the plenary presided over by the Speaker of the House, Mr Olakunle Oluomo who directed that the clean copies of the bills should be transmitted to the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for his assent.

Mr Oluomo also announced that the Assembly had formally received a judgment nullifying the election of the member representing Ikenne State Constituency, Mr Babajide Owodunni, pointing out that the man had ceased to be a member of the House based on the development.

The Speaker explained that the winner of the said judgement would be sworn-in as soon as the Certificate of Return had been issued to him.

While reacting to the submissions made by the members representing Odeda state constituency, Mr Oludaisi Elemide and his colleague from Ijebu-East Mr Waliu Owode who expressed concern over the rising cases of kidnapping recorded in their areas recently, the Speaker called for greater collaborations between the people and security agencies in ensuring the immediate arrest and prosecution of criminals, with a view to fighting kidnapping and ritual killings in the state.
