An inspector from the Rivers State Police Command sadly took his own life after unintentionally shooting and killing his colleague, Monday Gbaramana.

The incident occurred in Nyogor-Lueku, located in the Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Both inspectors, Nelson Abuante and Monday Gbaramana, were assigned to the Taabaa Division of the Command.

They were responding to a complaint made by a suspect’s mother and went to the community to make an arrest.

Trouble began when the suspect, Akere Akpobari, resisted their attempt to apprehend him, and during the ensuing struggle, Inspector Abuante accidentally discharged his firearm, hitting Inspector Gbaramana.

Gbaramana was immediately rushed to the hospital, but due to the severity of his injuries, he died after the vehicle transporting them ran out of fuel.

Realizing the tragic outcome, Abuante turned the gun on himself and took his own life.

Reacting to the tragic incident, Grace Iringe-Koko, the Police spokesperson in Rivers, said both bodies have been deposited at the mortuary, while investigations are ongoing.
