Ogun state government has concluded plans to organise a mini Sports festival across the twenty local government areas of the state to discover talents for state ahead of the 2024 National Sports Festival.
The Commissioner for Sports Development, Mr Wasiu Isiaka made this known during a meeting with the Chairmen and coaches of various sports Associations held at indoor Hall of Alake Sports Centre Ijeja Abeokuta.
Mr Isiaka who noted that, there were abundance of hidden talents that must be discovered and groomed to replace the ageing ones,restated the readiness of state government to successful host the biennial event.
He solicited the continued support of the chairmen of the sports association and coaches in achieving the set mandates.
Earlier, the Chairman of Wrestling Association, Dr Taofeek Babalola had appealed to the state government to provide the athletes with improved facilities to enable them to prepare early for the games.
Dr Babalola who commended the efforts of the state government for the steps taken in the development of sports in the state also stressed the need for government to initiate more programmes that would motivate the athletes especially through employment.
