… Charges South-West on Unity of Purpose

Unity of purpose will ensure that the South-West becomes a formidable region and makes substantial progress.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, Professor Muyiwa Popoola made the assertion at the 2024 Samuel Ladoke AKintola Memorial Lecture and Awards Presentation held at the House of Chiefs, parliament building, secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, Oyo State.
Professor Popoola, who said that the Yoruba race had at various times in the past experienced disunity, noted that the sad event that occurred in 1965 in the Yoruba nation was as a result of political interest and political grievances.

The Don, who pointed out that the upheaval in 1965 had led to destruction of lives and property, said it was important to ensure the history of implosions does not recur, but rather the Southwest should maintain a common front in a truly federated Nigeria.
We should be united to have a formidable common front that will give us the opportunity to launch ourselves to the deep and let the Federal Government know that as far as resource control and true federalism are concern that is what Yoruba Nation Stand for and known for
Professor Popoola, therefore, urged President Bola Tinubu to constructively work towards true federalism for the benefit of the various entities that make up the nation.

Speaking on the Late Ladoke AKintola, Professor Popoola the sage described as a true leader and a legend, who made lots of remarkable achievements in his lifetime.
In a remark, Oyo State Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade described Ladoke Akintola as a politician with vast knowledge, a nationalist to the core,

The Olugbon Of Orile – Igbon, Ogbomoso, Dr Francis Olusola, on his part, said the event was to celebrate an icon, describing Ladoke Akintola as a man of great mind, and very inspired politician, whose ideologies are reflected in the present political structure of the country.
 “SL Akintola  recorded many achievements for the region as a Federal Parliamentarian, a Minister and premier of the western region“
“Baba, May his soul Rest In Peace we will always remember him for what he stood for in his life times “
“ He is an epitome of humanity, man of legend , we are proud of him”
Speaking, the daughter of the
Late Ladoke AKintola, Dr Abimbola AKintola, who eulogized her father for his good legacy, said he was a renowned author, a legal luminary and journalist worthy of emulation.

Highpoint of the event was presentation of awards to a former Majority Leader, House of Representatives, Alhaja Mulikat Akande, Acting Vice Chancellor Ladoke AKintola University of Technology Ogbomoso, Professor Rasaq Kalilu, among others.
In attendance were Government functionaries, traditional rulers, entrepreneurs and students.
