Ondo Pays Last Respect to Akeredolu

Sympathisers, family members, government functionaries and the entire people of Ondo State have paid tributes to the former governor late Oluwarotimi Akeredolu at the second leg of the burial rites commencing in Akure the state capital.  

As early as eight o’clock in the morning, students and residents lined the streets of the state capital to receive the remains of the former governor in a dark brown casket.

Thereafter the casket was taken to the governor’s office for the lying in state.

Addressing the people Governor Lucky Aiyedatwa described Mr Akeredolu as a passionate leader whose impact heralded developmental projects.

Governor Aiyedatiwa recounted the outspoken charisma of his late boss for saying the truth advocating fairness and security of his people.

In their separate tributes,  CAN chairman Ondo state chapter Reverend Anselam Ologunwa and a former lawmaker Mr Toluwani Borokini said the late Mr Akeredolu left a remarkable impact which would never be forgotten.

Some others described him as a courageous man whose impact touched lives.

The body of late governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu was also taken to the Ondo state high court for a special court session being a lawyer a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association and as well a former attorney general and commissioner of justice in the state after which it was taken to the state sports complex for another lying in state for state burial.

Among those who joined Governor Ayedatiwa at the ceremony included the immediate family members of the late governor,  chairman of the Nigeria governor’s forum and Kwara state governor Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrazak, Governor Duoye Diri of Bayelsa State, former Ondo State governor, Dr Olusẹgun Mimiko, deputy governors of Ekiti, Oyo, Sokoto, lawmakers, political appointees among other sympathisers.

Late Former Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu will be laid to rest on Friday this week at his country home in Owo even as the state government already declared a two-day public holiday for Thursday, 21st and Friday 22nd February 2024 for the burial rites in honour of the former governor.
