The Nigeria Police Force, NPF, has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that peace and stability remain their priority for the betterment of Nigerians.

The Force Police Public Relations Officer, Abuja Headquarters, FPPRO, Mr Muyiwa Adejobi stated this while addressing newsmen during the presentation of the award to the overall winner of boxing and archery competitions of the 14th Biennial Nigeria Police Game, BIPOGA, 2024 at Ilaji Resort Akaran.

Mr Adejobi said though there were security challenges in Nigeria, the Police were working assiduously to ensure that crime and criminality were reduced to the barest minimum.

He said the current security situation in Nigeria was not getting worse but improving due to numerous efforts of the police and collaboration of other sister agencies to ensure that Nigerians sleep with their eyes closed.

The FPRO said that most of the unfortunate incidents of insecurity being circulated on social media were old stories that were re-circulated to make people believe they were new or current incidents.

“You cannot see any conventional media house that will come out with these stories the way we have it on social media.”

“The security situation in Nigeria is not bad, let’s always analyse the security situation in Nigeria based on empirical facts and not just on speculation,”

Mr Adejobi said that the Nigeria Police collate data and has information on the security situation in all its commands in Nigeria and would surely make it known to the Public if the security is worrisome.

“We have issued a statement to tell Nigerians that most of the kidnapped cases were fake and have given instances and even paraded some suspects for Nigerians to know.”

“It is not all situations that these incidents are real, some people fake and plan kidnapping to get ransom from their families.”

“Let’s always differentiate and demarcate between the real and stage kidnap,”

He explained that the force was not denying the facts that there were isolated cases of insecurity and the force has arrested and neutralized many kidnappers.

The FPPRO stated further that the police and other security agencies in Nigeria would continue to collaborate and not relent in ensuring peace and security in Nigeria.

He, therefore, called on Nigerians to continue giving out useful information to security agencies to collectively wage war against insecurity that poses a threat to the nation’s development.
