Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo has commiserated with the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde and the people of the State over the demise of Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Olalekan Balogun.

Chief Obasanjo in a statement in Abeokuta, the Ogun State Capital said that the death of the Royal Father was received with shock and sorrow.

Chief Obasanjo stated that the deceased was a foremost nationalist, patriot and custodian of cultural and traditional values, who gave his best while in the service of the nation.

Describing the late Olubadan as a decent and amiable person, the former Nigeria president added that his contributions to the political, social and economic life of Ibadan, Oyo State, Western Region and, indeed, Nigeria would remain indelible in the hearts and minds of those who had interacted with him in politics and in social-economic life. 

He expressed his heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Oyo state on this great loss, also sympathised with the family of the deceased, and pray  God to grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss. 

Similarly, Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, Mr Adebola Hamzat has commiserated with the entire Olubadan dynasty and the State over the loss of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Lekan Balogun, who joined his ancestors yesterday at the age of 81.

This is contained in a statement in Ibadan signed by the state’s police public relations officer, Mr Adewale Osifeso.

The statement notes that the revered first-class monarch would particularly be missed for his active participation and support in ridding Ibadan and the State of undesirable criminal elements.

According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police has assured the public of proactive and adequate security measures to guide the transition process of the late monarch.

It says that the measures include; adequate deployments around the nook and crannies of the State characterized by visibility policing, convoy patrols in concert with relevant sister services, surveillance and intelligence-aided stop and search.

The Police boss in Oyo state assured all and sundry to be law abiding and to go about their normal businesses without fear of molestation or harassment from anyone.

He urges parents and persons wielding various degrees of influence in religious, socio-political or in any other sphere of influence to prevail on the children, wards and protégés against acts that could lead to a breach of peace as unrepentant violators would be severely sanctioned.

“Lastly, the good people of Oyo State are enjoined to always help the Police by saying something, if they see something, for the Police to immediately do something.”
