Ogun State Government has renewed its commitment to the development of Scrabble to encourage coaches and discover more players, to consolidate the state’s successes in the game.
The State Commissioner for Sports Development, Mr Wasiu Isiaka, who gave the reassurance at the closing ceremony of the 2nd National Scrabble Festival, held at Ijebu-Ode, noted that the State had changed the narrative of Scrabble administration in the country through investments in Scrabble equipment, provision of playing halls, investment in players, amongst others.
He stated that as one of the games to be played at the upcoming National Sports Festival, scrabble requires passion and strategic thinking, appreciating the organizers for their dedication and devotion towards making the festival a huge success.
Mr Isiaka revealed that the State Government, through the State Scrabble Association provided logistics which include accommodation, breakfast, and a playing venue, amongst others, which would not only ensure a serene environment for the festival but also provide a comfortable and memorable experience for the entire duration of the Festival
He added that the passion of the players, for words and competition was truly inspiring.
The Sports Development commissioner encouraged the participants to continue practicing, learning, and growing in the game of Scrabble, imploring the contestants to let the competition serve as motivation to strive for excellence in all areas of their lives.
