Members of the National Executive Council, NEC, of Nigeria Union of Journalists have converged on Ibadan, Oyo State for their Quarterly Meeting to deliberate on the progress of the profession and national development.

The NEC Meeting which is being hosted by the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Oyo State Council was declared open by the State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde at Dapo Aderogba Hall, NUJ Press Centre, Iyaganku, Ibadan.

While declaring it open, Governor Makinde who was represented by the Commissioner for Works and Transport, Professor Daud Sangodoyin described journalists as partners in progress, whose roles of educating, informing and watchdog could not be underestimated.

Governor Makinde commended the National Executive Council of the Union for deeming Oyo State fit to host the Meeting, urging them to feel at home and move round the Ibadan City to assess some of the achievements of his administration.

Earlier, President, Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Chief Chris Isiguzo commended the Oyo State Governor for his support to the Union and its members in the state, saying, the Governor had written his name in gold in the minds of Journalists.

In an address of Welcome, Chairman of NUJ, Oyo State Council, Chief Ademola Babalola said, hosting the meeting in Oyo State was unprecedented, as the State is holding it for the first time in history.

Chief Babalola appreciated Governor Seyi Makinde for being a Media friendly Person whose support at all times culminated to some of the successes being recorded by the Union in the State.

Members of the NEC are National Executive Officers of the Union, State Council Chairmen and Secretaries from the 36 States of the Federation including Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Attendance at the Opening included  Oyo State Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, Past leaders of NUJ in Oyo State, among others.

The Meeting ends tomorrow(Saturday).
