Nation Mourns as Late Onanuga Laid to Rest in Sagamu

The ancient town of Sagamu was enveloped in grief as mourners from across the nation gathered at the Sagamu Central Mosque to bid farewell to the late Deputy Chief Whip of the Federal House of Representatives, Right Honourable Oriyomi Onanuga.

Dignitaries from various sectors attended the funeral, including members of the National and State Assemblies, led by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Right Honourable Tajudeen Abbas, and the Chief of Staff to the President, Right Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, expressed shock over the sudden demise of the former lawmaker, who represented the Sagamu, Ikenne, and Remo North constituency.

The President who described late Onanuga as a hardworking and dedicated leader, whose contributions to the 9th and 10th Assemblies were invaluable, extended his condolences to her constituency and Ogun State, praying for her soul to find eternal rest.

In his remarks, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas praised the late Onanuga as a diligent lawmaker who provided robust representation for her constituents. He commended her leadership, particularly during her tenure as Chairperson of the House Committee on Women Affairs, and described her as a pious and committed woman who would be greatly missed.

Speaking at the funeral, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, also paid glowing tributes to the deceased, describing her as a dependable ally committed to humanity’s growth.

Governor Abiodun highlighted her impactful life, noting that she ensured the execution of constituency projects across Remo land.

He lauded her uncommon leadership qualities during her time in the 9th and 10th Assemblies, emphasizing her loyalty, consistency, and work ethic. He remarked that her dedication to public service had left an indelible mark on Ogun State and beyond.

The funeral of Right Honourable Oriyomi Onanuga served as a moment of reflection on her legacy of service and devotion, leaving many in Sagamu and across Nigeria mourning the loss of an exemplary leader.

She passed away last Wednesday at the age of 59.
