Ogun State House of Assembly has passed a resolution calling on the State Government to immortalise the late former Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, Mrs Adewunmi Onanuga by renaming the Court junction/Simawa road and some of her projects in her honour.
The passage of the resolution followed the debate led by the sponsor of the motion, who is also a member representing Sagamu I State Constituency, Mr Damilare Bello, and supported by all the state lawmakers.
They extolled the virtue of the late federal lawmaker, describing her as a distinguished daughter of the State who had contributed immensely to the development of the state and the nation.
In the same vein, the Assembly also paid tributes to some eminent Nigerians from the state, who died in the last two weeks, commending their unwavering commitment to their communities, the state and the nation.
The state lawmakers in their various reactions extolled them as prominent sons of the state who had left indelible marks in commerce and industry as well as the political landscape of the state and nation.
Taking the lead to report to the Assembly, the demise of a prominent industrialist, Late Chief Ogooluwa Bankole, the former Speaker, Mr Olakunle Oluomo, who described the deceased as a foremost industrialist who established the first paint industry in Ifo local government area since 1985 attributed most of his professional success to the deceased.
The Minority Leader, Mr Adeleye Lukman, on the other hand also formally reported the exit of Pa Ayo Adebajo, a renowned political leader, an Awoist, foundation leader of the then National Democratic Coalition, NADECO and elder statesman who dedicated his life to fighting for justice and truth.
The lawmaker representing Odoogbolu State Constituency also commiserated with the people of Odoogbolu on the death of the Alaye of Odogbolu, Oba Adedeji Olusegun Onagoruwa, who passed away Monday.
On his part, the Majority Leader, Mr Yusuf Sheriff Abiodun paid tribute to another illustrious Nigerian, late Senator Solomon Otegbola, whom he described as a political leader of repute; who represented Ogun West Senatorial District in the third republic.
The State lawmakers led by the Speaker, Mr Oludaisi shared heartfelt tributes to all the deceased and led other members to observe a minute silence in their honour.
In another development, the House passed a resolution calling on the State Government to direct the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA to urgently provide succour to the victims of the recent storm that ravaged Ikangba community in Odoogbolu Local Government Area and other parts of the state that experienced similar natural disasters in recent times.
The Assembly passed the resolution following the extensive debate on the motion sponsored by the Minority Leader, Mr Lukman Adeleye, who lamented that the incident affected many properties, including some schools in the community.
Other lawmakers also called on the state Ministries of Environment, Education, Science and Technology as well as the State Teaching Service Commission to appear before the House alongside SEMA on Thursday, 27th February, 2025 for further discussions.
The Assembly equally passed a resolution requesting the relevant agencies of the government to embark on the rehabilitation of Bilikisu Sugbo shrine and the Oke- Eri road leading to the legendary tourist centre in Ijebu- North East Local Government Area of the state to promote local businesses and tourism development.
