The Minister of Health, Professor Muhammad Pate wants increased collaborations towards reducing the high rate of maternal mortality in Nigeria.
The Minister made the call in Abeokuta, at the launch of a workshop on Co-Creation of the Ogun State Maternal Mortality Reduction Innovation Initiative, MAMII.
Professor Pate said that the national co-creation initiative, earlier launched by President Bola Tinubu was aimed at removing the financial barriers and ensuring that no vulnerable woman was denied of critical care due to cost.
The Minister advised the states to invest in human resources and collaborate with stakeholders to reduce maternal and newborn mortality, adding that the Federal government had approved 25 billion naira to upgrade 8,800 health facilities across the country.
In a remark, Governor Dapo Abiodun represented by his Deputy, Mrs Noimot Salako-Oyedele called for stakeholders commitment to the co- creation innovation among other data driven strategies to drastically reduce maternal and newborn mortality in Ogun state.
Governor Abiodun said his government allocated 13 percent of the 2025 budget to the health sector to improve healthcare infrastructure, human resources and service delivery, especially, revitalization of healthcare centers across the state.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Tomi Coker urged participants in the 5 – day workshop, including representatives of government agencies, non-governmental organizations and healthcare providers to foster a collaborative and multi-faceted approach to addressing maternal and newborn mortality in Ogun State.
