Residents of Akure, Ondo State Capital have staged a protest against the abduction of nine surveyors at the site in Akure North Local Government area.

According to Radio Nigeria, the protesters in their hundreds disclosed that the surveyors were abducted by some gunmen while working on a site at Ilu-Abo on Tuesday last week.

Converging on the residence of the Ejeminkin of ijemikin in Akure, High Chief Oluwole Omotayo in the state capital as early as 9am, the protesters condemned the surge in the rate of kidnapping in the state in recent times.

They lamented that the nine surveyors were working on the site when the armed men suddenly emerged from the bush and whisked them away to an unknown destination.

Marching from Ijemikin to the Governor’s Office, the protesters, who were mostly women, called on Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to take quick and decisive actions towards checking activities of kidnappers, killer herdsmen and other criminals who have penetrated some communities of the state.

Speaking on behalf of the governor, the Special Adviser, Union Matters and Special Duties, Mr. Taiwo Bola, emphasized the importance of being mindful of one’s surroundings and maintaining security awareness at all times.

He noted that the nine surveyors who were kidnapped had visited the site without the presence of security personnel, highlighting the need for greater caution in such situations.

Mr Bola also urged the people to report any suspicious movement, activity or people to the security operatives as most of the perpetrators of this evil act reside or work within the community.
