The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, says it has realized over 43 million naira from import duty and auction sales of petroleum products, PMS, intercepted during anti-smuggling operations in the last 90 days.
The Customs Area Controller, Ogun 1 Area Command, Mr Mohammed Shuaibu stated this at Idi Iroko headquarters of the command during an interaction with Journalists on the achievements of the command in the last three months.
Mr Shuaibu who pointed out that the amount generated in the first quarter of 2025 was higher than the money realized in 2024 said the command recorded about 161 seizures which comprises 3 Single barrel long Guns, 4 packets of 25 cartridges,150 Sacks of Indian Hemp of various sizes.
He listed others to include 10 cartons of Amoxicillin capsules, 7, 242 Bags Foreign Parboiled Rice, 4 Used vehicles, 20 Bags of imported Sugar among others with the duty paid value of over 314 million naira.
The Customs Area Controller, Ogun 1 Area Command attributed the success recorded in first quarter to the regular interface with relevant stakeholders including the engagement with Benin Republic Police and Benin Republic Customs Controller in charge of Igolo-Idiroko border to strengthening border security, improving trade facilitation through Idiroko border corridor, economic relations between Nigeria and Benin Republic.
Mr Shuaibu who reaffirmed the determination of the Command to facilitate legitimate trade urged Nigerians to avoid any form of illicit trade that could adversely affect the economy and tarnish their reputation.
