Residents of Ijaye-Orile in Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State have appealed to the state government to come to their aid following last Wednesday’s downpour that destroyed property worth millions of Naira.
The Onijaye of Ijaye, Oba Lasisi Akano who made the appeal in an interview with Radio Nigeria, said the last Wednesday’s downpour also led to collapse of many houses, electrical poles, telecommunication antenna and removal of roofs of many buildings.
Oba Akano emphasized that the rain on the said day started around four o’clock in the evening, unknown to the residents that it would wreck such havoc on the ancient town.
The monarch who expressed concern that this was the first time in history that the town would experience such a devastating downpour that destoyed many properties, however thanked God that no life was lost to the incident.
He also appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde to help restore power to Ijaye-Orile that had been in darkness for over fourteen years.
While noting that the town had exhausted every means to restore power to the town, the monarch stressed that the power outage had led to collapse of many businesses.
