Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka has urged Nigerians to embrace traditional medicine, describing it as an invaluable part of the nation’s heritage.
Speaking at an event to commemorate this year’s Isese day in Abeokuta, Professor Soyinka said many countries are returning to natural and traditional remedies, which are now recognized globally as effective forms of healthcare.
He lamented that Africans are being misled to abandon indigenous knowledge systems in favour of foreign practices.
In a remark, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, represented by the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Mr Sesan Fagbayi, assured traditional worshipers of sustained government support for Isese Day.
Earlier, Chairman, Ogun State Alternate Medicine Board, Balogun Nurudeen Olaleye also called for stronger policies to develop traditional and alternative medicine as a growing global industry.
