Established in 1975, the Public Complaints Commission, PCC is an agency of the Federal Government which has the primary role of ensuring administrative justice, protecting citizens’ rights, and promoting a more effective and accountable public service.
It handles complaints through its Public and Private Sector Investigation Departments.
However, many Nigerians are ignorant of the responsibilities of this agency, resulting in many dying in silence of challenges that could have been taken care off by the commission.
This is the reason the PCC, Ogun State Chapter, embarked on a walk to sensitise Nigerians on the need to approach the Commission to voice their concerns and seek redress without the burden of litigation costs or prolonged legal battles.
The walk, held as part of activities marking the commission’s 50th anniversary, took off from the Skating Ground at Panseke of the state capital and was terminated at the commission’s office within the Federal Secretariat, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
The Federal Commissioner in charge of the State, Mr. Morakinyo Akinleye explained that the exercise was to enlighten citizens on their rights to seek redress for various grievances, including matters relating to employment, healthcare, education, consumer rights and land disputes.
Mr. Akinleye noted that the Commission was committed to receiving complaints, investigating and prosecuting matters, while also ensuring reconciliation of disputes, working in partnership with community leaders and traditional rulers to extend such services to the grassroots.
Also, a former Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly and Chairman, Assembly’s Service Commission, Mr. Suraju Adekunbi, expressed optimism that the walk would further educate citizens on the vital role of the commission in promoting good governance and accountability.
He urged Nigerians to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the PCC to seek justice and foster peaceful coexistence within their communities.
