Nigeria leads the Para Badminton event at the ongoing West Africa Para Games in Abeokuta with 15 medals—five gold, seven silver and three bronze.
Benin Republic follows with two gold and five silver, while Ghana has one gold and three bronze.
Head Coach of Nigeria’s Para Badminton team, Adewale Olasunkanmi, praised the athletes’ performance, linking their success to the country’s strong record, including a standout outing at the All-African Para Badminton Championship.
In football, Nigeria advanced to the final after a 1–0 win over Cameroon, following an earlier 11–0 victory against Benin Republic.
Michael Joel scored the lone goal at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena.
Amputee Football Head Coach Gbenga Dosunmu expressed confidence in winning gold but appealed for increased government support.
Liberia, meanwhile, defeated Benin Republic 7–0 to sit second on the table with four points.
