Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has described the death of renowned historian and Chairman of Governing Council of Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Professor Abdulgafar Siyanbola Oyeweso as a monumental loss to the state and the nation.
In a statement by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke said he received the news of Professor Oyeweso’s demise with deep shock, noting that Nigeria has lost one of its best.
He described the late academic as an erudite scholar who devoted his life to shaping generations through teaching, research, and public service.
The Governor extended heartfelt condolences to the immediate family of the deceased, the Timi of Ede, and the entire Ede community, acknowledging the void left by the passing of a respected son of the soil.
He also sympathized with the management, staff, and students of OAU, whom he said had lost a refined and visionary leader.
The Governor who prayed for the repose of Professor Oyeweso’s soul and asked God to grant his family and all mourners the strength to bear the loss, expressed hope that the legacies of the distinguished historian would endure as a testament to his impactful life.
