The Nigerian Army has reaffirmed its commitment to prioritising the welfare and wellbeing of its personnel through improved accommodation and a conducive working environment.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, stated this at the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of Phase Two of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks in Asokoro, Abuja.
Lieutenant General Shaibu said the Nigerian Army is facing an acute shortage of accommodation nationwide.
He assured officers and soldiers that ongoing residential projects and the renovation of barracks across formations and units will be completed on schedule.
The Chief of Army Staff thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued support, describing the new phase of the barracks as evidence of the government’s commitment to improving soldiers’ welfare.
He said the project reflects efforts to match the sacrifices of personnel with tangible benefits.
In his address, the Coordinator, Nigerian Army Special Project“s and Programmes, Major General Bayode Adetoro, said Phase One of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks currently accommodates over 600 personnel.
Major General Adetoro added that Phase Two is expected to provide accommodation for about 1,800 army officers.
He said the project aligns with the Chief of Army Staff’s command philosophy of “Soldier First.”
