The Ogun State Police Command says it has arrested eight suspected members of an armed robbery syndicate operating along the Papalanto–Ilaro and Owode–Idiroko corridors of the state.

In a statement, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the arrest followed an intelligence-led operation coordinated by the Anti-Robbery Squad of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta.

Mr Babaseyi explained that the suspects, Mogaji Sodiq, Adebowale Lekan, Ajah Peter, Ganiyu Razaq, Odeleye Ayoola, Egboja Amos, Bello Akeem, and Olaifa Sunday, were apprehended at different locations across the state based on sustained intelligence tracking.

Police operatives recovered a hijacked trailer truck, nine hundred bags of cement, and a locally made single-barrelled pistol during the crackdown.

He added that Investigations revealed that most of the stolen cement had been moved to a warehouse, which was traced and recovered by operatives, noting that further intelligence had uncovered the gang’s involvement in other organised robberies targeting commercial trucks.

The police spokesperson assured that operatives are intensifying efforts to arrest fleeing members of the syndicate, adding that the suspects would be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The Command also reiterated its commitment to sustained intelligence-led operations to protect lives and property and urged the public to report suspicious activities through approved emergency lines.
