NUJ Ogun Chairman Celebrates Women Journalists on IWD

Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, Comrade Wale Olanrewaju, has joined the global community in celebrating women journalists on the occasion of the 2026 International Women’s Day, IWD, commending their resilience, professionalism and contributions to journalism and societal development.

In a statement signed by the Secretary of NUJ Ogun State Council, Mr. Bunmi Adigun, Comrade Olanrewaju praised the Acting Coordinator of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Ogun State Chapter, Comrade Oluwatoyin Adegoke, and her executive members for their dedication to promoting the welfare and professional advancement of female journalists.

The NUJ chairman also commended NAWOJ Ogun State for its consistent advocacy and support for the Special Seats Bill, aimed at increasing women’s representation in governance, describing the involvement as a demonstration of commitment to gender inclusion and democratic development.

Comrade Olanrewaju noted that women journalists have continued to distinguish themselves through impactful reporting, advocacy on social issues and adherence to ethical standards, despite the challenges they face.

He urged the leadership of NAWOJ to sustain the momentum by initiating programmes that empower female journalists, promote capacity building and strengthen women’s role in the media and nation-building.

Comrade Olanrewaju also reaffirmed the support of NUJ Ogun State Council for initiatives aimed at advancing the professional growth and welfare of women journalists.
