The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Mr Oludaisi Elemide, has cautioned residents, particularly those living along Idi-Aba Road in Abeokuta and other parts of the state, to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse on road medians.
He warned that such acts contribute to air pollution and that offenders would be arrested and prosecuted.
Mr Elemide gave the warning during plenary at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
The Speaker also called on the State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, as well as the Ministry of Environment, to improve the maintenance of road medians across the state to keep them free of weeds.
Meanwhile, Mr Elemide has urged the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, to adopt more humane and effective arrangements in managing candidates sitting for its examinations.
Mr Elemide expressed concern about the exposure of candidates to harsh weather conditions, noting that many are made to wait in open spaces, which poses risks to their health and well-being.
He called for the provision of waiting sheds outside examination centres to accommodate candidates pending their scheduled examination time and to protect them from adverse weather conditions, including rainfall.
