Teachers in Ogbomoso, Oyo State on Monday staged a protest over the abduction of some of their colleagues and students by suspected bandits last Friday.
The protesters, who marched through major streets in Ogbomoso carrying placards with various inscriptions, demanded the immediate release of the victims and improved security across schools in the area.
During the protest, the teachers chanted solidarity songs and expressed frustration over the growing insecurity.

“No Teacher, No Nation,” “We Are Nation Builders, Stop Killing Us,” “We Need Peace,” “We Are Not Criminals,” “Free Our Principal,” and “Free Our Colleagues.”
Speaking during the protest, some of the teachers said the demonstration was aimed at drawing the attention of relevant authorities to the plight of the abducted victims and the urgent need to secure their release.
They, however, assured parents and students that academic activities would continue, noting that candidates writing the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination would be allowed to sit for their remaining papers without disruption.
The protest followed last Friday’s attack by suspected bandits on some schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, during which some teachers and students were reportedly abducted during school hours.
