Police Dismiss Rumours of Planned School Attack

By Amos Ogunrinde

The Oyo State Police Command has appealed to residents of Oko Town to remain calm and continue their lawful activities despite rumours of a planned bandit attack on schools in the town.

The spokesperson for the command, Mr Olayinka Ayanlade, made the appeal during a telephone interview with Radio Nigeria while reacting to the reports circulating within the community.

Mr Ayanlade disclosed that some individuals allegedly spreading the false information in Oko and neighbouring communities have been arrested.

He urged residents to report anyone caught spreading fake news to law enforcement agencies for prompt action.

Radio Nigeria gathered that several primary and secondary schools in Oko Town closed around noon after rumours of the planned attack spread across the town.

Concerned parents and guardians reportedly rushed to schools to withdraw their children and wards following the panic triggered by the false reports.

Traders at Oko Market also hurriedly closed their shops after seeing large numbers of students returning home.

However, Ogbomoso, where the rumour was said to have originated, remained peaceful when Radio Nigeria visited the town.

Students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH, Ogbomoso, were also seen writing their examinations without disruption.
