As part of the move to contain the spread of COVID-19 pandemic, especially at the Correctional Custodial Center in Ondo State, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has ordered the release of 26 inmates

The inmates are those who have served their portions of sentences after being duly sentenced to various terms of imprisonment

A statement from the governor’s office says the action is in accordance with Paragraph (d) of the Sub-Section (1) of Section 212, of the 1999 Constitution, as amended

Governor Akeredolu expressed the belief that decongesting the Correctional Custodial Center would not only help to prevent the spread of Covid-19, among inmates, but also the officials

In an interview with Radio Nigeria, the public relations officer of the correctional centre, Mr Babatunde Ogundare revealed that there were plans for consideration for more release of inmates as graciously granted by the state chief judge.
