The Nigeria Police Force, Oyo State Command says it has dismantled a syndicate involved in the diversion of goods in transit, arrested two suspects, and recovered goods worth about thirty-two million naira.
A statement signed by the command public relations officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, says operatives of its Monitoring Unit, acting on credible intelligence, raided the syndicate’s hideout in the Irepo area of Oyo Town, leading to the arrest of the suspects, Olawale Kareem, aged 40, and Monday Ogunbiyi, aged 46.
DSP Ayanlade explained that the operation led to the recovery of an IVECO truck bearing registration number MUS 809 XY, loaded with 570 bags of guinea corn which was allegedly diverted while being transported from Kaduna State.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are members of a criminal syndicate involved in diverting goods for financial gain, while the suspects reportedly confessed to their roles.
According to the statement, continuous efforts are being made to arrest other members of the syndicate and recover additional diverted goods.
