A military officer attached to Joint Task Force, Igbeti in Oyo State and identified as “Uthman Muhammed” has been crushed to death by a runaway trailer.
The accident occurred on the new Ibadan-Oyo expressway, Powerline, Moniya, Ibadan on Sunday afternoon.
A witness of the incident, Mr Ayotunde Ojo explained that the accident happened as a result of reckless driving by a Micra driver.
Mr Ayotunde said the Micra driver while trying to carry a passenger, did not park properly and this caused the soldier who was riding motorcycle behind the Micra to swerve suddenly in order to avoid ramming into taxi.
As a result of the sudden maneuver, the soldier was hit and crushed by an oncoming trailer and reportedly died on the spot.
An officer of Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, who preferred anonymity, said they received a distress phone call before rushing down to the spot of the incident.
The corpse of the deceased officer has been evacuated by some officers of Nigeria Army from the Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment while the runaway trailer had been tracked to Bodija area of Ibadan.
