Akere village, a gold mining community via Ifewara town in Atakunmosa West of Osun State has been thrown into confusion following the kidnap of three Chinese expatriates.
The incident, which reportedly occurred on Monday, February 1st, 2021 in the evening involved the death of a police officer who was attached as detail to the Chinese expatriates.
A source at the Akere village told Radio Nigeria that there was disagreement over wages between the expatriates and some Northern Nigerians and foreigner labourers which degenerated to a major crisis in the area.
A security source who said the kidnappers were demanding five hundred million naira alleged that the labourers were responsible for the kidnap of the expatriates.
The Corps Commander of Amotekun Security Network in Osun State, Retired Brigadier General Bashir Adewinbi confirmed in telephone chat that one policeman was killed during the attack, while three Chinese were abducted.
The Amotekun boss said men of the security network had been drafted to the area to fish out the perpetrators and ensure the safety of those that were kidnapped.
Also, NSCDC spokesperson, Mr Daniel Adigun confirmed the abduction of the three expatriates and the killing of one police officer.
The spokesperson of Osun State Police Command, Mrs Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the incident, saying police had been mobilised to the area since Monday but w are yet to make any arrest.
Mrs Opalola added that the identity of those that kidnapped the Chinese was yet unknown, while she said the slain police officer was from another state.
Radio Nigeria correspondent revealed that the kidnapped Chinese were those engaged in gold mining activities in the village.
