Don Tasks FG on Discouraging Food Importation

Inconsistent government policies, poor funding and lack of infrastructural facilities in the rural areas have been identified as factors responsible for the nation’s food insufficiency. The provost, Oyo state College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora, Professor Jacob Olugbenga stated this while delivering monthly personality lecture organized by the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, Ibadan zonal station at the studio one of the Broadcasting House, Dugbe.

Professor Olugbenga also identified non involvement of rural farmers in planning, lack of modern farming tools adaptive to farmers and insufficient qualified extension personnel adding that the newly inaugurated government should leverage on past laudable policy to boost food production.

The Professor also stressed the need for government to discourage food importation so as to realise rapid development.

In an address, the Deputy Director news and current affairs Pastor Dare Olorunfemi said Radio Nigeria has the mandate of getting the masses informed on new agricultural innovations.

Zonal director, FRCN, Ibadan zonal station, Alhaji Muhammed Bello, said the lecture was timely as it would further re-emphasize the agricultural diversification agenda of the Federal Government.

Participants at the lecture pledged to venture into agriculture so as to contribute to food security in the country.
