FG Empowers 300 Educationists with Practical Skills

Over three hundred Technical Teachers and Instructors from the Southwest have undergone training in Digital skills, Trade subjects and Teaching Methodology

The training was a World Bank-assisted Innovation Development and Effectiveness in the Acquisition of Technical Skills, IDEAS Project of the Federal Ministry of Education.

Speaking at the closing of the three-week train the trainers’ workshop in Ibadan, Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, identified skills development and vocational training as critical areas to drive economic growth in the country.

Represented by the Director, Technology and Science Department, Federal Ministry of Education, Dr Muyidat Olodo, Dr Alausa stressed that the ministry was repositioning Technical Education to meet global best practices.

Also speaking, Oyo State Commissioner for Education, Professor Salihu Adelabu urged the upcoming generation not to rely only on academic qualifications, but to acquire vocational skills.

Professor Adelabu said the State Government had embarked on revamping and remodelling of Technical Schools and expressed the readiness of the State Government to key into capacity building of Technical Teachers and Instructors.

The National Coordinator IDEAS project, Southwest Zone, Mrs Blessing Ogwu, represented by Mr. Ademuyiwa Alashe, enjoined the participants to train their students on various skills acquired during the workshop.

Some participants expressed satisfaction with the training and called on the government to embark on more training programmes for educationists.

The workshop featured the presentation of laptops to outstanding participants, certificates and awards.
