Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has not received any court order restraining him from further action concerning the newly appointed First Class Emirs of Rano, Karaye, Gaya and Bichi Emirates.

This was contained in a media statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Malam Abba Anwar, and was made available to Radio Nigeria in Kano.

The letter explains that the notification of appointment were written from the office of the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji dispatched to the concerned Emirs.

The new Emir of Karaye, Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Abubakar II, Emir of Rano Alhaji Tafida Abubakar Ila, Emir of Bichi, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero and the Emir of Gaya, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdulkadir.

Letters of appointment have been issued to the Emirs since yesterday and they have returned the acknowledged copies, the event for today was just for felicitation.

The President of Grade ‘A’ Customary Court, sitting in Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, Mrs. I.T. Akinrodoye has ruled that Mr. Niyi Alebiosu of the African Newspapers of Nigeria PLC, publishers of Nigerian Tribune be served a court notice by substituted means for evading the service of the court.

The court granted leave to the plaintiff, Sports Writer Association of Nigeria, SWAN, to paste the notice on the wall of his place of work located at Imalefalafia, Oke Ado, in Ibadan.

Counsel to the plaintiff, Mr. Steven James had earlier prayed the court to grant the leave to serve the defendant through substituted means on the account of the court bailiff’s inability to deliver the court summons to Mr. Alebiosu after three attempts.

Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, dragged, Mr. Niyi Alebiosu before the court on a three-count charge which include alleged unlawful possession of the association’s property.

A cross section of indigenes of Eda Oniyo-Ekiti has called on government to expedite action on the relocation of Ilejemeje Local Government headquarters to the town as affirmed by the Supreme Court.

In an interview, one of them and President of Eda Oniyo Progressive Union, Dr. Rufus Ajayi expressed confidence in the ability of the committee set up by government to ensure justice, peace and fairness in execution of the judgement.

Dr. Ajayi pointed out that the seven traditional rulers across Ilejemeje had unanimously signed a Memorandum of Understanding that Eda Oniyo should be made headquarters of the council area.

Also, another indigene, Mr. Ayo Oni maintained that necessary facilities for the take-off of the local government headquarters had been put in place, hence the need to justify the efforts of the residents of Eda Oniyo-Ekiti.

Mr. Oni who observed that the creation of Ilejemeje Local Government was solely funded by the people of the town, urged government to execute the Supreme Court judgment without further delay.

The committee on the Supreme Court judgement, headed by Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi had last two weeks visited the town with a promise to be truthful in its dealings with a view to ensuring lasting peace among the two communities.

Alternative Dispute Resolution, ADR, will help in reducing backlog of cases in the administration of justice system if effectively utilized.

This was the submission of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mr. Lateef Fagbemi at the inauguration of Ibadan Chapter of Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, CIARB.

Mr. Fagbemi who is the chairman of the chapter explained that arbitration was one of the mechanisms to resolve disputes amicably and also encourage investors to come to the country.

He said building a solid foundation would allow their dream of a world class arbitration centre to be nurtured to maturity and promised to pursue the acquisition of a building to serve as a training and dispute resolution centre.

In her remarks, the chairman of the Nigeria Branch of the Institute, Mrs. Adedoyin Rhodes-Vivour, said the institute was committed to promoting arbitration and training.

Mrs. Rhodes-Vivour said the institute had trained arbitrators so that parties in disputes would resolve them through well qualified and trusted arbitrators.

Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, CIARB, was established in the United Kingdom in 1915 while the Nigerian Branch was approved by the institute in 1999.

The institute has over 16,000 members located in 133 countries around the world.

It currently has three chapters in Abuja, Port Harcourt and Ibadan.

The Oyo State Chief Judge, Justice Muktar Abimbola, this morning conferred the title of notary public on three legal practitioners in Ibadan.

The officers are Mr. Stephen James, Abdulwasiu Oteniara, and Tolulope Olateju.

At the swearing in ceremony, the promoted officers promised to be committed to the rule of law.

One of the promoted legal officers, Mr. Stephen James, who described the new title as a big leap in his legal career, said the promotion would help him to be more dedicated to the legal profession.

Mr. Abdulwasiu Oteniara who is also a recipient of the title, said the new position would serve as a motivation to help members of the public.
