Igbo-ora one of the towns that make up Ibarapa land in Oyo state has played host to people from all walks of life for this year’s edition of World Twins festival .

 Despite the downpour, Methodist Grammar School playground, venue of the festival was a sight to behold with over six hundred sets of twins in attendance. 

In his welcome address, the Olu of Igboora, Oba Jimoh Titiloye implored the state government to make Igboora a tourist centre. Describing twins as special gifts, he said the town is noted for producing about 158 sets of twins per 1000 children born, adding that nearly every household in Igboora has multiple births. 

 Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state who was represented by Dr. Saubana Muraina, member of the House of Representatives promised to encourage and promote tourism in Oyo state.

The Alaafin of Oyo Oba Lamidi Adeyemi in his remarks advised people to eat more of local delicacies as they are nourishing and also responsible for the high production of twins in Igboora .

The increasing rate of criminal activities in the country has been blamed on the neglect of cultural values and heritage.

The Onibuji of Ibuji in Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State, Oba Folagbade Ojo gave this position at the celebration of Ibuji Yam festival also known as Ìjesu-Olókun.

Oba Folagbade explained that traditional religion forbade injustice, corruption, killings and kidnappings which were now the order of the day in the society.

The monarch who decried daily increase of criminality despite millions of churches and mosques charged Nigerians to save their cultural heritage from extinction.

High-points of the Ìjesu-Olókun Festival were traditional prayer for the town at Olokun shrine, Òbèrèmóyè where the residents exchanged strokes of cane and installation of new chiefs.

The Nigeria Immigration Service NIS, Ogun state command has concluded arrangements to flag off migrants registration programme in the state.

The NIS State Controller Mrs Doris Braimah made this known when she paid a courtesy visit to Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun. 

Mrs Braimah said the steps wound give the service the opportunity to know the comprehensive data of all foreigners residing in Nigeria.

Mrs Braimah said that Nigeria Immigration Service would be more proactive in checking immigrants and emigrants at nation’s borders towards ensuring that country was devoid of illegal migrants.

She maintained that the service would collaborate with other security agencies towards ensuring that Nation’s borders were well policed. 

Responding Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun who emphasized that migrants registration programme was necessary, stressed the need for NIS to intensify efforts towards ensuring that Nations borders were well protected to curb influx of illegal migrants.

Governor Abiodun who pointed out that his administration would not condone crime and criminality, said the state government would continue to interface with the service for effective service delivery.

Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde has promised to transform Ikere Gorge dam into a tourism site and generate hydro-electricity from it.

He said this when he received the delegation from Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority.

Governor Makinde described Ikere Gorge Dam as a multi-purpose dam with great potentials that have not been fully tapped.

The Governor said his administration would immediately rebrand the Water cooperation of Oyo state after which water schemes at different stages of completion would be expanded and rehabilitated.

Earlier, Managing Director, Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority, Mr. Olufemi Olayemi had highlighted challenges hindering the Hydropower component and tourism potentials of Ikere Gorge Dam to include deplorable condition of the 28 kilometer access road to the Dam area from Iseyin.

At least four bodies have been recovered as salvage crews raised the wreck of a tourist boat that sank on the Danube in Budapest last month.

Divers entered the boat as a floating crane slowly brought it to the surface.

Report says, The Mermaid was carrying South Korean tourists when it was in collision with a cruise ship and capsized, leaving 20 people dead and eight others missing.

Recovery efforts by Hungarian and South Korean teams have been hampered by high water levels in the Danube.

Footage from the scene on Tuesday morning showed the cabin and upper deck of the boat emerge from the water and divers then carry out a search for victims still trapped inside.

The bodies recovered were believed to be those of three South Koreans and the Hungarian captain, the South Korean Yonhap news agency quoted officials as saying.

According to salvage experts, the operation is expected to take several hours. It is not known how strong the hull of the 70-year-old boat is following the collision.
